Y'know, I have to be honest, there aren't many people in this day and age that really and truly impress me but occasionally someone comes along and blows me away. These are real men and women that despite all odds, and probably despite a lot of people telling them they'll never for fill their dreams , have stuck a big two fingers up to whatever is trying to hold them back and done it anyway. The heroes, the mavericks, the renegades; they are the people that really inspire me. Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying people have to jump through fire and risk their life saving puppies, the scale of the situation is irrelevant, it is the courage and strength to carry on trying each day when you're fighting against the grain.
Rik "Ebilgarr" Bennett is one of the heroes, born with complications in one of his legs which resulted in it having to be amputated at the shin, Rik has gone on to become a renowned big wave rider and who also has a taste for climbing up the face of mountains such as Everest and Ben Nevis. (Did I mention that his preferable method is up the face of the mountain with a couple of pick axes to er "aid" his climb!) I asked Rik what made him get into it? I briefly mentioned that I surf... badly...and then made the excuse (i mean seriously i'm making excuses in front of this man) that i got into it a bit late *felt stupid as soon as i opened my mouth :-/ ... He simply said "to prove everyone wrong". Well mate, you certainly did!!!!
So... my part of the story is. I get to airbrush his carbon leg!!!!!!!! Yessssss!!!!! So watch this space and i'll keep in touch xxx
