Of course i always have a few projects going on at the same time. Got a motorcycle helmet to start next week, some racing leathers and i'm planning out another self-portrait. This time my self-portrait will be on aluminium board, i may actual do two, one in more of a tattoo style but we'll see.... Just for the record i end up doing a lot of self-portraits because i generally don't have many volunteers that wan't me to paint them naked and also its having the time to meet up and fit in each others schedule. To be honest i like doing self portraits because i try to incorporate a lot of emotion/expressions in my work; because i know what i need to portray in the picture it makes it easy to use myself. My self-portraits so far have been to do with how i feel about certain things which makes them very raw... i like that but hopefully in the not too distant future i will be painting some of people i know and trying to capture a moment or feeling of theirs and get it painted...
Why are my paintings nudies??? Well i think because that's the you in your most open form, you're not hiding behind an image or character, there's no irony... You may put on a suit and feel more powerful or a floaty dress and feel feminine... don't get me wrong, paintings with peoples clothes on have their place and indeed tell another story but when i'm trying to paint certain things i want all that stripped away so the image is very honest... "this is me, open, raw, sometimes venerable, sometimes powerful, how ever you see me in the painting, i'm hiding behind nothing"....It makes me feel brave and venerable all at the same time.... SB xxx
