Self-Portrait: The Emptiness...Work in Progress

This is my self-portrait i'm working on at the moment...Titled "The Emptiness". Its a large painting so that's why it's taking so long, i'm probably only about half way through at the moment. I'm not going to say anything yet about the meaning of it but i would love to hear your comments...remember it's very far from finished, airbrushing particularly on canvass requires loads of layering! xx

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year all... It may not seem like it, due to the lack of picture updates but I have been busy working on paintings. This month is a busy one; a retro Steve Caballero  (the skateboarding fans will know who i'm talking about) bonnet to do on a golf, a graveyard scene to do on a trike, a canvas painting of soldiers, and of course a self portrait that I was doing for the Parallax art fair (unfortunately it's looking like i'll have to give it a miss this year but i'm still going to finish the painting).

I have to admit, it's the first time i've attempted a self-portait. Being a self-taught artist i probably haven't done all the exercises that most students of art are requested to do, i'm sure self-portraits are inevitably with in the syllabus. However, for any budding artists out there, i thoroughly recommend attempting a self-portait.

For me i started off setting out to paint something in me that i felt, i guess i was trying to tell a part of a story but what actually is turning out is it is illustrating something that has been apparent throughout my life. It is like looking into the mirror of part of your soul, well for me anyway, it was very enlightening. It has shown me a mistake i have made repeatedly throughout my life. When that stares you straight in the face it becomes less easy to ignore. Therapy if you like lol!
If any of you have any self portraits or indeed any other art work you would like me to display on my website, please send me some pics in, i would love to start a gallery page of people who follow my blog.

Pictures to come asap, good luck for 2014! xxx
