FAQ
Does getting a tattoo hurt?
Everyone has different pain thresholds and different skin sensitivity, regardless, a tattoo causes trauma to the skin so, we try to make you as comfortable as possible during the process. Some people enjoy the sensation and others not so much. There are places on the body, such as the ribs, which are much more painful than an arm. You will find you have more tattooing stamina if you follow our advice and eat a substantial meal before your appointment.
Where are the most painful places to get tattoos?
This may vary between person to person but here’s my list based on my customer’s experiences and my own
- Palm of the hands!
- Ribs!
- Sternum
- The part on the back of your leg where the top of your leg meets your bottom
- Knee caps
- Inner thigh
- Certain areas of your back, near the spine although actual spine seems easier, areas moving our towards the sides of your ribs, over your kidneys
- Armpits
- Top of the foot and the sole
- Knuckles
- Tops of finger
How should I prepare for my tattoo appointment?
Please read the pre-tattoo section on our tattoo care page.
What is the healing process like?
The healing process of a tattoo typically unfolds in several stages over the course of about 2 to 4 weeks. Here’s a breakdown:
Initial Healing (Days 1-6):
Day 1: After getting your tattoo, it may appear red, swollen, and slightly raised. This is normal and a sign that your body is beginning to heal.
Days 2-3: The tattoo may weep (ooze) clear plasma or ink. Keep it clean and moisturized with a recommended ointment.
Days 4-6: The redness and swelling should subside. You may notice some scabbing forming as the tattoo starts to heal.
Peeling and Itching (Days 7-14):
Days 7-10: As healing progresses, the scabs will begin to flake off. The tattoo may itch during this time; avoid scratching to prevent damage.
Days 11-14: The outer layer of skin continues to peel, revealing the healed tattoo underneath. Keep applying moisturiser to ease itching.
Final Healing (Weeks 3-4):
Weeks 3-4: The tattoo may appear fully healed on the surface, but deeper layers of skin may still be repairing. Continue moisturising and protecting it from sun exposure.
Full Healing: Complete healing can take up to several months, during which the skin settles and the tattoo may look even more vibrant
How do I choose the right design?
It’s best to book a consultation with your chosen artist, we welcome pictures of tattoo designs that you like as that helps us gage a idea of your tastes however we will always draw up something original and bespoke to you.
Our artists also put up their own designs up for grabs, so you may see something you like on their pages.
What if I change my mind about the design after it’s done?
Of course we take our upmost care to make sure you are happy with the design before we tattoo on your skin and, we realise the importance of the trust you are putting in us as your new tattoo will be with you forever. However, sometimes you may get home and realise that you may want something added or changed. If this is the case, please contact your artist who will be happy to discuss any adaptations that can be accommodate.
Can I bring a friend to my appointment?
Yes you can but please bare in mind our studio is a relatively small space, and can easily can get over-crowded. If you’d like to bring your friend please let your artist know so we are aware of numbers in the studio. Although we love children, we ask that they are not brought to studio.
(There is a really nice café on site ran by Shelly who makes great coffee, lovely cakes, bagels and smoothies. There’s also a hairdressers, barbers, sports therapist and Nordic spa where your friends can kill some time whilst waiting for you to get tattooed. Failing that, there’s Newquay town and beautiful beaches which are a must see if you’re visiting!).
Please check the Feel Good building for links to any of the above.
How do you ensure hygiene and safety during the tattoo process?
All tattoo studios have to be checked by the local council to make sure everything is above board and sterile, we are also heavily quizzed on hygiene too and they will not issue a license if these standards are not met. If you’re worried about any aspects on hygiene we welcome you to come to the studio to have a chat and a look around. As the hygiene methods are quite in depth the 60 odd paged manual is a bit too much to cover here.
What if I have sensitive skin or allergies?
We have a consent form that you have to fill out asking these kind of questions, however, if you haven’t been tattooed before please mention this to your artist as well during your consultation so we can discuss the best course of action for you with regards to your tattoo
How much will my tattoo cost?
This is a question we get asked a lot, it completely depends on the style you are having, the size, detail and placement to name just a few aspects. We are happy to give you a estimate once we have done the design for you as then, as an artist, we’ll have an idea of how long it will take.
Sometimes, if we are selling predesigned tattoos, we can suggest a price for that tattoo once we know the size and placement of the tattoo. Placement is important because different areas of the body can be trickier to tattoo
Do you offer touch-ups after the tattoo heals?
Yes, we offer one free touch up
Do you do cover-ups?
Hell yeah!!! Danni actually loves doing coverups
What styles do you specialise in?
Danni likes the challenge of tattooing all styles but loves doing colour, portraits and is particularly fond of mixing neo-realism with some more traditional aspects. She loves tattooing animals and adding darker dream-scape aspects to her work
Do you do piercings?
Sorry we don’t provide that service.
Do you do tattoo removal?
Not yet although we may look at doing this in the near future.
I have a medical condition, can I still get tattooed?
It really depends on what it is, speak to your artist first and then they may advise consulting your doctor depending on the condition
I am under 18 but my parents are happy for me to get tattooed, will you tattoo me?
Sorry, no under 18’s under any circumstance.
Can you put my loved ones ashes in the tattoo ink your using on me?
No, it’s not hygienic and if your tattoo got infected my insurance would not cover me due to adding the ashes. In all honestly, it is rare that any of the ash actually gets into the skin and stays there. I have heard that you can send off the ashes to get them sterilised and suspending properly in tattooing ink but I have not looked into this, mainly because, after all the processing, I wonder how much would really be left?
