Well due to accidentally deleting my whole gallery on my website i'm wearing suitcases under my eyes as i had to stay up late trying to put it all back on. Apart from that life is good! Working on a fantastic Harley Davidson "Terminator 2" style. Just put the first white layer on so far so it may look a bit weird but trust me the end result is going to be awesome! Also i'm going to be at BOARDMASTERS festival at Newquay, Cornwall doing my airbrush tattooing and face painting. Come and see me!!!! x
Over the next few weeks i'll be busy doing my airbrush tattooing. Had a great day in Penzance on Mazey day and enjoyed painting peoples faces and giving them their glittery tattoos and hair braids!
Of course i always have a few projects going on at the same time. Got a motorcycle helmet to start next week, some racing leathers and i'm planning out another self-portrait. This time my self-portrait will be on aluminium board, i may actual do two, one in more of a tattoo style but we'll see.... Just for the record i end up doing a lot of self-portraits because i generally don't have many volunteers that wan't me to paint them naked and also its having the time to meet up and fit in each others schedule. To be honest i like doing self portraits because i try to incorporate a lot of emotion/expressions in my work; because i know what i need to portray in the picture it makes it easy to use myself. My self-portraits so far have been to do with how i feel about certain things which makes them very raw... i like that but hopefully in the not too distant future i will be painting some of people i know and trying to capture a moment or feeling of theirs and get it painted... Why are my paintings nudies??? Well i think because that's the you in your most open form, you're not hiding behind an image or character, there's no irony... You may put on a suit and feel more powerful or a floaty dress and feel feminine... don't get me wrong, paintings with peoples clothes on have their place and indeed tell another story but when i'm trying to paint certain things i want all that stripped away so the image is very honest... "this is me, open, raw, sometimes venerable, sometimes powerful, how ever you see me in the painting, i'm hiding behind nothing"....It makes me feel brave and venerable all at the same time.... SB xxx Y'know, I have to be honest, there aren't many people in this day and age that really and truly impress me but occasionally someone comes along and blows me away. These are real men and women that despite all odds, and probably despite a lot of people telling them they'll never for fill their dreams , have stuck a big two fingers up to whatever is trying to hold them back and done it anyway. The heroes, the mavericks, the renegades; they are the people that really inspire me. Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying people have to jump through fire and risk their life saving puppies, the scale of the situation is irrelevant, it is the courage and strength to carry on trying each day when you're fighting against the grain.
Rik "Ebilgarr" Bennett is one of the heroes, born with complications in one of his legs which resulted in it having to be amputated at the shin, Rik has gone on to become a renowned big wave rider and who also has a taste for climbing up the face of mountains such as Everest and Ben Nevis. (Did I mention that his preferable method is up the face of the mountain with a couple of pick axes to er "aid" his climb!) I asked Rik what made him get into it? I briefly mentioned that I surf... badly...and then made the excuse (i mean seriously i'm making excuses in front of this man) that i got into it a bit late *felt stupid as soon as i opened my mouth :-/ ... He simply said "to prove everyone wrong". Well mate, you certainly did!!!! So... my part of the story is. I get to airbrush his carbon leg!!!!!!!! Yessssss!!!!! So watch this space and i'll keep in touch xxx Wassup you beautiful people?
Just wanted to mention that Silverbird has made reached it's 2nd year in business this month and I am absolutely over the moon! For those of you who do not know my background here's a brief rundown... As a mature student i went off to Cambridge to study marine biology and animal behaviour at Anglia Ruskin University but during my final year of studies i really started to miss art. I used to paint when i was a kid but the last thing i painted was when i was 15 years old! Towards my final year at uni, i started looking into airbrushing and thought it would be a cool way to earn a living as i really was the type of person that needed to work for herself. About a year after having my beautiful baby girl in 2010, i started to play around for a few hours a week with an airbrush and loved it. At the time i was teaching but being a bit of a rebel I didn't really agree with the system that was in place for the students and although i absolutely loved teaching my students, my beliefs were greatly compromised and i started to really not enjoy certain aspects of the job.... this was actually a positive thing because i started to look more and more into pushing forward a career in airbrush art. Eventually in March 2012, i decided to take the plunge, against a lot of advise from family and some friends, i quit my job and set up Silverbird airbrushing! It has been a massive learning curve and as a single mother has been hard balancing everything but i have done it and this year looks like it's going to a great one! So many projects lined up at the moment and i'm loving every minute of it. So i just wanted to say a great big THANK YOU to all those who have supported me, family, friends, my lovely, lovely customers, a big thanks to Nik at 100% biker magazine and most importantly my daughter who gives me the drive to keep going when sometimes the road gets tough. Big love and hopefully Silverbird will be around for many more years to come. Helllllloooooo there! Just a little not to say my portraits on canvas are seeming to be quite popular at the mo. They make great pressies, so why not have a portrait done of a loved one and give it to a loved one???? What a very original valentines day present that would be for all you romantics out there!!!! (Mind you, you'll have to be quick as it's obviously on Friday haha)... but if you're thinking thats a good idea, the first one to book in i'll give 10% of the original price! Happy daze! Silverbird xxx It's not all motorbikes and cars. You can literally airbrush anything; clothes, washing machines, toilet seats etc etc...but for now heres an A2 canvas i airbrushed for a customer yesterday. It's of a famous photo "Two Russian soldiers preparing for battle at Kursk". Painted with com-art paints. Hope you like x Well the storms have brought in a few strange requests for me. On Monday i shall be painting feathers on a mans spandex covered legs...i do love the variety my job brings!
Hopefully, i'll also get a little time to work on the finishing touches of my self-portrait but i think most of the month will be taken up by making a car bonnet kinda look like a Steve Caballero skateboard deck - really looking forward to that! I'll keep you posted on my blog with the usual pic updates. Stay happy x The Emptiness: Getting close to finished got to add some small details and do a little tweaking. Would love to hear your thought
This is my self-portrait i'm working on at the moment...Titled "The Emptiness". Its a large painting so that's why it's taking so long, i'm probably only about half way through at the moment. I'm not going to say anything yet about the meaning of it but i would love to hear your comments...remember it's very far from finished, airbrushing particularly on canvass requires loads of layering! xx
